How to Change Thoughts from Negative to Positive

I know it's not New Year's but how about making a resolution that will change your life forever? Breaking bad habits and changing them to healthy habits is alot easier said than done, I know it took me 3 years to actually quit smoking from the time I said I was going to. But fear not bad habiters, there is a way to be proactive in your change from bad to healthy! Most people have wonderful ideas on how to change from bad to good but alot of people do not recognize the main change takes place in the mind. Changing your thought process is the catalyst to changing your behavior. In order to change a behavior we must first alter our thoughts from negative to positive. It is easy to get swept up in the moment and throw yourself a pity party, but why not use some techniques to help you recognize your pity party and get your out of that negative thinking funk? We do not always have to be the victim.

First step is figuring out why these negative thoughts exist, was it because you had a bad relationship, or a fear of taking action or even low self esteem? Any of these things are factors involved your negative thinking, acknowledging these issues will help you over step the negative hurdle and jump into positive ground. There are certain things you can do to be proactive in your thought process. The first being Self Affirmation. You should always affirm the good in your life, like thinking today is going to be a good day (even despite over-sleeping your alarm) it's all in your mind to perceive a situation accordingly.

Studies have shown that people who exercise are more positive so, instead of taking a cab walk to work and affirm to yourself the positive you are projecting, let those endorphins flow!

Positive self-talk is a third way to get you thinking more positive. Everyone has an internal dialogue with themselves and its important to be your best friend when communicating with yourself, don't hold on a grudge with yourself because of a poor choice, instead remind yourself you are only human and you are doing the best you can.

The next step is believing in yourself. Many people tend to doubt what they are capable, but believing in yourself is the key to success.

Another way to be more positive is to eat better. I know it sounds weird, but you are what you eat. Everything you eat effects the way your body functions including your brain. Many studies have shown that the way people feel is correlated with their diet and what they choose to eat. Maybe munching on those Cheetos are making you feel worse than better.

In order to be more positive you have to stay in tune with what you are thinking and how your thoughts turn into actions. If you police your brain and shut down the negative thinking you are doing yourself a favor. Brain waves are imprinted for years and years and we have to stop them from firing off in the same old negative direction. This takes time and patience but it really works when you hold yourself accountable for what your brain is thinking and projecting.
